The Kindness That Speaks Volumes

Recently, my sister and I were reminiscing about our childhood days. Each of us was amazed at what the other remembered. We discussed our elementary school teachers. Unlike me, my sister couldn't remember the names of her elementary school teachers, but she remembered the name of the school bus driver and the bus number (78). Needless to say, I didn't.

I teased her, saying, "You must have enjoyed riding that bus, if you remember the bus number too!" She responded that the bus driver was kind.

It's been over 40 years since my sister was in elementary school. She doesn't remember her school teachers, but she remembers the bus driver—because of his kindness.

To me, that speaks volumes!

The Power of Lasting Kindness

The bus driver's simple acts of kindness made a lifelong impression on my sister. That memory has lasted decades—not because of what he taught, but because of how he treated her.

However, there's one act of kindness that has eternal value.

"But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit."

Titus 3:4–5 (NKJV)

God's kindness led to the greatest gift we could receive: salvation. It's not based on what we've done, but on who He is.

True Kindness Comes from God

When we show God's kindness to others, we become more caring, compassionate, and helpful. But to consistently live this way, we need the help of the Holy Spirit.

Kindness isn't just about being nice. It's a fruit of the Spirit. And it can leave a mark that lasts a lifetime or even for eternity.

Prayer

Lord, I pray that we not only look out for our own interests, but also for the interests of others. Help us to reflect Your kindness in all that we do. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Final Thoughts

We often don't realize how deeply our small actions impact others. A kind word, a soft smile, or a gentle response can leave a permanent impression on someone's heart.

What act of kindness can you offer today that might echo for years to come?
